A Demopolis woman who was charged with the February 2022 death of her boyfriend in Tuscaloosa County has been sentenced to life with the chance for parole.

Paula Whitney, chief assistant district attorney for Sixth Circuit District of Alabama, said that Angelica Isabel Quintana, 31, of Demopolis was found guilty of murder after a lengthy jury trial on Feb. 13, of the murder of Dennis Melton, 27, of Demopolis. She was sentenced in circuit court on Tuesday, April 22, to a life sentence.

On Feb. 8, 2022, police were called to investigate the report of a man being trapped under a vehicle near Skyland Boulevard in Tuscaloosa. First responders took Melton from the scene to DCH Regional Medical Center where he later died. Quintana was charged with murder and later released on $500,000 bond.

At the trial, Whitley said they had testimony from the victim’s sister. The jury was also presented with a video showing where Melton was under the vehicle and the suspect did nothing to help him.

“She never called 911,” Whitley said. “During the trial, she showed no remorse, and she did not show remorse again on Tuesday during the sentencing hearing. I believe the judge took that into account when he delivered his verdict.

“It was a very difficult trial. We believe that the jury weighed the evidence and came back with an appropriate verdict.”

Quintana has been in custody ever since her conviction in February. Whitley said the suspect will be transferred to the Department of Corrections at a future date once paperwork has been completed by the courts.
