The Sweet Water baseball team ended its baseball season in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, falling to Leroy 10-1 and 8-5.
The Bulldogs end their season with a record of 14-16.
In game 1, Leroy pounded out nine hits to score 10 runs, six of which were unearned due to five errors.
The game stayed close until the sixth inning with four Leroy runs to take a 7-0 lead.
Sweet Water got one of those runs back thanks to Jordan McManus’ triple to score Nate Norris, who reached on a single.
Leroy then got three runs back in the top of the seventh inning to close the game.
Norris had a double and a single and scored the only run. DJ Lucy had a double while Tim Kelley had the other hit. Norris took the loss despite seven strikeouts. Lucy also pitched one and two-thirds innings with a strikeout.
Sweet Water had a big inning in the top of the third, as they looked to force a game 3 and keep their season alive.
After Lucy walked and Kelley reached on an error, Sammie Walker singled in Lucy. Evan Dunn then doubled home Kelley to keep the rally going.
Norris brought in both Dunn and Walker on a single. McManus brought Norris home on an RBI single, but the batter was thrown out trying to take second base.
As quickly as Sweet Water built the lead, Leroy answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.
A base hit and an error on the same play allowed Leroy to take the lead in the fourth inning.
Leroy added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Sweet Water was unable to mount a rally in the seventh inning to keep the season going.
McManus took the loss despite racking up seven strikeouts in five and one-third innings. Brayden Dunn got the final two outs of the sixth inning.
Norris ended the game with a single, double, one run and two RBIs. McManus had a pair of singles while Dunn and Walker had the other hits. Maitland Morgan and Lucy both reached on errors while Bradyn Norris reached base after being hit by a pitch.
