Sweet Water girls earn spot in regionals

The Sweet Water softball team earned a spot in the Class 1A South Regional in Gulf Shores next week after advancing to the finals of the Area 4 Tournament at Southern Choctaw on Monday.
They were awaiting the winner of loser bracket final to 4 p.m. matchup on Tuesday. The game had not begun as of press time.
To get to the finals, the Lady Bulldogs defeated Choctaw County 19-1 before besting the home team 7-0.

The Lady Bulldogs scored 13 runs in the first inning and six runs in the second inning before giving up a run to Choctaw County in the third inning prior to the mercy rule being enforced.
Addison Griffith led the way with a 3-for-3 day including three runs scored and an RBI. Maylie Broussard, Whitney Harrington and Reese Ashcraft all had a double and a single each while Jamirah Lucy and Marley Miller each had two singles. Harrington, Ashcraft, Miller and Lucy all had two RBIs.
Reagan Averette had a three-run triple with two runs scored while Anna Westbrook had a double with an RBI and two runs scored. Piper Gray also added a single with a run and an RBI.
Ashcraft had a strikeout in two innings of work. A Copeland gave up a run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts in one inning.
Sweet Water 7, Southern Choctaw 0
Whitney Harrington pitched a gem, striking out 10 batters in a complete, seven-inning game. She scattered four hits and one walk.
Harrington, Raegan Averette and Reese Ashcraft all had two hits in the win while Maylie Broussard, Anna Westbrook, Jamirah Lucy and Marley Miller had one hit each.
The Bulldogs had three runs in the second inning, two runs in the third inning and one run each in the fifth and seventh inning to seal the win.
The Lady Bulldogs also overcame two errors.
