Jakohri Johnson wins state championship in discus

The Demopolis High School Track team competed at the Gulf Shores Municipal Track as part of the Alabama High School Athletics Association State Championship Track and Field Meet that was held May 1 through 3, with final results announced Saturday evening.
Competing in 5A, DHS finished with several strong showings, including junior Jakohri Johnson, who brought home first place in boys discus throw, besting second place by five feet. Junior Markell Eldridge placed 12th in the event.
Demopolis boys also finished well in the javelin, with junior Bo Davis taking third, and Jakohri Johnson in 11th place.
Johnson also took seventh place in shot put, with Davis taking the 16th spot.
Emonte Charleston finished 19 in the Boys Long Jump.
In the Boys 300 meter hurdles, Floyd Charleston finished 21st place, with Carlow James just behind at 22.
The boys held their own in the 4×400 meter relay, taking sixth place in a field of 16 strong competitors, and landing in 14th in the 4×800 meter relay.
Junior Ambrasya Howard came out strong for the DHS girls, taking eighth place in the triple jump.
Demopolis girls finished 11th in the 4×400 meter relay, and 16th in the 4×800.
Overall results for the championship were determined by points based on individual event placements.
At the end of the three day tournament, DHS girls landed in 26th place overall, with the boys winding up mid-pack at 12th place overall.
