The Black Belt Community Foundation has determined winners of its annual William and Geraldine Curry Scholarships. Two will be awarded in Marengo County, with the first going to Marengo County High School senior JaKyra Jackson.
Jackson has been accepted to Faulkner University, The University of Alabama, Auburn University, The University of West Alabama and Alabama A and M. She plans to attend either Faulkner University or The University of West Alabama in pursuit of a business administration degree.
As part of her scholarship application essay, Jackson said, “I believe that showing up as a servant leader in my community also involves being consistent and exhibiting kind servant leadership in small, everyday actions such as checking on someone who’s having a hard day. My mother always reminds me that if I haven’t helped anyone along the way, my living has been in vain. I will continue to uplift my community in my daily walk in any way I can.”
The William & Geraldine Curry Scholarship recognizes high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and commitment to serving their communities.
“This scholarship is more than financial support—it’s an investment in the future of the Black Belt,” said Felecia Lucky, CEO and President of BBCF. “We are excited to continue honoring Reverend Curry’s legacy by empowering young leaders to achieve their dreams and contribute back to their home communities after completing their education.”
