Three separate fatal traffic accidents on May 2, 3, and 6 have left some in the area shaken.
On Friday, May 2, a two-vehicle crash occurred at about 7:05 p.m. seven miles south of Demopolis on U.S. Hwy. 43, which claimed the life of a Camden teenager. According to Alabama State Troopers, the 18-year-old was fatally injured when the 2016 Nissan Altima the teen was a passenger in struck the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Heather R. Hill, 37, of Gallion. The teen was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash, was ejected and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, Alecia M. Jackson, 21, of Thomasville, was injured and transported to Whitfield Regional Hospital in Demopolis for medical treatment.
The next day, Saturday May 3, a police chase in Bibb County ended tragically as the pursued, Willie Terrell Wills, 44, of Moundville, struck a vehicle on AL Hwy. 5 south of Brent, sending a family of four Bibb residents to the hospital and killing Wills. Sadly, a nine-year-old injured in the crash succumbed to his injuries days later at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.
Days later, on May 6, an 18-wheeler failed to stop at the intersection of U.S. Hwy 43 and South Industrial Park Drive in Thomasville, tragically killing two drivers and injuring four others. According to Thomasville Police, the deceased drivers were Ashley Marie Springer McDonald, 37, and Woodie Earl Beck III, 53. A lawsuit has been filed against the out-of-state trucking company 4 US TRANSPORTATION COMPANY, and the two occupants of the truck, Andrii Dmyterko, 45, and Denys Kucher, 31, have been detained. Both are in the United States on work visas.
