Kerby honored for ten years of service to schools

Monday, May 19 arrived as the last official Demopolis Board of Education meeting for Olen Kerby, who completed his second consecutive five-year term as a board member.
Board Chairman Harris Hurst read a proclamation from the board regarding Mr. Kerby:
“…Whereas Mr. Kerby has demonstrated outstanding service by giving his time, talents, and resources to further the goals and objectives of the Demopolis Board of Education, and whereas Mr. Kerby recognizes the significance of sound boardmanship by demonstrating innovative and exemplary leadership through calm decision making, and whereas his selfless and steadfast counsel and support of this system has helped shine a light, and make a positive impact on all state boards, the employees, and especially students at all levels, and whereas Mr. Kerby has always looked at the big picture of driving the system toward our vision and mission, now therefore be it resolved that the members of the Demopolis City Board of Education are forever indebted to you, and bestow this honor to Mr. Kerby upon the completion of his ten years of dedication to the children of Demopolis and surrounding areas.”
“I just want to say thank y’all. It’s been a wonderful ten years,” Kerby expressed to the board, “We’ve been through some good times and hard times, but I hope and pray that the school’s better than it was ten years ago when I came here. The teachers and the administrators and the central office have been super. So thank you all.”
Mr. Kerby’s seat on the board will be filled by Ben McCurdy beginning at the next board meeting on June 9.
