James William “Bill” Baker, age 81, also known by his close friends and family as “Billy”, went home to be with the Father on May 23, 2025. He was preceded in death by Beth, his beloved wife of 62 years, his parents, Jim and Kate Baker, his brother, Wayne Baker, and his sister, Alice Baker. He was born October 11, 1943 in Demopolis, AL.
Bill worked for Southern Natural Gas from the age of 17 until his retirement. He was a faithful servant of Gallion Baptist Church for many years serving as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and in various other capacities. In his retirement years he attended Siloam Baptist Church. He and Beth loved the camp, and they spent many days enjoying the serenity on the porch after an afternoon of fishing.
Bill loved Alabama football, and always said “Nick was worth every penny!” He and Beth traveled all over the country to watch the Tide play…she shopped and he watched football.
Most of all he loved his family. He was a very proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was happiest of all surrounded by his children, grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is survived by a son, Wayne (Pam) Baker of Jefferson, AL. and their children, Cody (Libba) Baker and Carolyne (Mason) Milner and a daughter, Dyan (Steve) Perrigin of Daphne, AL. and their children, Wesley Perrigin and Ethan Perrigin and a very faithful lab named Daisy.
Memorials may be made to Siloam Baptist Church, P.O. Box 158, York, AL 36925.
Visitation will be held at O’Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Linden, AL on Friday May 30, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Memorial services will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Brad Campbell and Rev. Jake Duke officiating.
