DACC calls for sponsors as COTR approaches

With Christmas on the River is fast approaching, the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce is working to ensure this year’s event is a great success.

Currently, the chamber is working to secure sponsorships for this year’s COTR.

“Our 2018 COTR committee is excitedly preparing for another fantastic event,” said DACC Executive Director Sidney Freeman. “This December we will celebrate our 47th year of Christmas on the River in Demopolis. Our annual holiday tradition not only celebrates the camaraderie and accomplishments of our own community but also serves to remind all others why we truly are ‘The City of the People.’”

Freeman said sponsorships are an important part of making COTR the best it can be each year. “Without the generous support of our citizens, businesses, and corporations, we are unable to reach our full potential,” she said.

There are several levels of sponsorship available: Star Sponsor, $5,000; Ornament Sponsor, $2,500; and sponsorship levels for smaller businesses and individuals ranging from $75 to $830. New businesses that join the chamber, as well as current members, will be eligible for a discount on sponsorships.

Sponsorships are used to offset costs associated with the many events that make up the COTR celebration. Sponsorship forms may be picked up at the chamber office and should be returned by Nov. 2 to accommodate the production of signage for the event.

In addition to financial sponsorships, the COTR Committee seeks volunteers in all areas of planning and event execution. Those interested in donating time and talents are welcome to call the chamber at 334-289-0270 for more information.

“Through your support of Christmas on the River, we can continue to make Demopolis a top tourist attraction in the state, generate more revenue for our community, and promote a positive quality of life for our citizens,” Freeman said.

This year’s COTR schedule is as follows:

• Miss COTR Pageants — Sept. 29 through Oct. 3

• Lighting of Love Light Tree and announcement of the 2018 Special Child — Wednesday, Nov. 28

• Lighting of the Park and crowning of St. Nick — Thursday, Nov. 29

• Alabama State Championship BBQ Cookoff — Friday, Nov. 29

• Fair in the Square, Jingle Bell Run 5K, Christmas on the River Day Parade, Nautical Parade and Fireworks, and the COTR Gala featuring The Groove Factory — Saturday, Dec. 1
