Marengo High Lady Tracksters claimed its first state championship Saturday, May 7 when its 4-by-100-meter dash relay team turned in its best time fo the year to take first place. This is a major accomplishment since the school does not have a track.
Junior Tiffanie Pritchett, along with her fellow runners Kiana Lewis, Keondra Bouler and Keishelle Clarke, finished the race with a time of 52.01 seconds, topping second place Alabama School for the Deaf and third place Linden.
The young ladies entered the Saturday finals with the second best time behind ASFD in the prelims Friday.
These young athletes also captured third place in the 4-by-400-meter relay with a time of 4:28:87 with one of their relay members hurt and the team not being able to substitute for another runner.
The team also won the 1A Sectional One Crown on May 2 with a total of 156 points at Hoover High School. Coach Miller would like to thank all of the Lady Tracksters for a job well done.
