A four-year-old boy was hit be an automobile April 11 on Pettus Street in downtown Demopolis.
According to the report from the Demopolis Police Department, Javiya Lamar McGrew, 4, of Boligee, was struck by a 1998 Oldsmobile driven by Susie Daniel Moore, 61, of Demopolis.
The incident happened at 3:15 p.m. between Second Avenue and Blacks Drive.
Moore was travelling east on Pettus. She told police that the child ran out from behind a parked car and entered the road. She tried to stop but could not.
Another driver behind Moore said the cars were not going very fast when the child ran into the road.
A witness at the scene said another child called for McGrew, and that she tried to run after the child but could not stop him from going in the street.
McGrew was taken to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. The child was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham for observation.
A source close to the family said Friday that the child is doing fine, and was released from Children’s Hospital. McGrew had no broken bones.
