National weather officials are not sure exactly where Tropical Storm Isidore will go, but the Demopolis area may be affected by the storm. Late Tuesday the projected path of the hurricane had it coming on land in Southwest Louisiana but moving toward Alabama possibly Friday morning.
A hurricane watch was issued from Cameron, Louisiana to Pascagoula, Mississippi. A tropical storm watch was issued from High Island, Texas to Destin, Florida.
No shelters had been activated in Mississippi.
Alabama emergency management officials are concerned about the outer bands of the storm possibly spawning tornadoes.
No mandatory evacuations of Alabama communities had been ordered by press time.
The U.S. Coast Guard advised all mariners Tuesday to take safety precautions while it works with local, state and other federal agencies to prepare for Isidore.
