A Toyota Camry DX collided with a 1989 Kenworth log truck Tuesday just before noon on Highway 80 West. The accident occurred on the East bound lanes just East of the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Kingdom Hall and at the entrance for the Alabama River Woodland Wood Yard.
Members of the Demopolis Police department, the Demopolis Fire Department and the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department responded.
Log trucks were backed up waiting for the accident to be cleared so they could leave the wood yard. Cautious traffic continued on Highway 80 on one lane of the East bound lanes as they drove around the accident.
William James was identified by Alabama State Troopers as the driver of the log truck, and Michael Morris was the driver of the Toyota. The Toyota had a fire fighter vehicle tag.
Both drivers were injured and transported to Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital. They were admitted to the hospital and are in stable condition, according to a spokesperson for Bryan Whitfield Hospital.
