Worm blasts Demopolis computers

Demopolis got blasted with the rest of them. A computer worm that infiltrated computers all over the world earlier this week didn’t spare business and home computers in west Alabama either.

Sharon Key, at Keyco, got the same message on her Windows XP computer on Wednesday.

The worm, called MSBlaster or LoveSan, found its way through a security hole in Microsoft’s Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows NT and Windows Server 2003.

David Mims, at Network IT, said he spent a good deal of his time this week helping businesses and computer users fix the problem.

Fixing the MSBlaster worm proved to be a bit more difficult than some suggested. For Key, she couldn’t keep her computer on long enough to download the program than fixed the problem.

Eventually, Key did what most others around the world did to fix the problem.

While the computer worm in Demopolis has faded fast, Reuters &045;&045; a worldwide news agency &045;&045; reported on Friday that another worm more powerful than MSBlaster will move in quick to personal computers.

According to Reuters, more "virulent ‘copy-cat’ worms could be on the horizon."
