U. S. Congressman Artur Davis (7th District Alabama), along with top officials in Marengo County, toured the county Monday, taking time to stop at several of Marengo’s top industries.
Touring along with Davis were members from the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce as well as Demopolis Mayor Austin Caldwell.
Chamber of Commerce Director Kathy Leverett, who led the tour, welcomed Davis, thanking him for coming to Marengo.
The first stop on Davis’s tour was at the Linden Lumber Company, where Linden Lumber Company Vice President Hugh Overmyer talked with Davis about foreign competition in the lumber industry.
Davis, along with the rest of the entourage, then toured American Pride Seafoods in Greensboro, where hundreds of employees were busy processing seafood as bits and pieces of it splattered across the floor of the processing plant.
While walking through the plant, Davis conversed with American Pride Seafoods Senior Vice President Randy Rhodes, who discussed plant operations as well as telling Davis about the enjoyment of being in the catfish industry.
The tour bus then headed towards Foster Farms, a corn dog processing plant. Davis, along with the rest of the entourage, then discussed plant operations with plant manager Travis Burnham, while touring the plant.
The tour then ended as the bus headed for the Gulf States Paper Corporation in Demopolis on Highway 80.
Corporate Communications Director Dan Meizner then met with Davis and the rest of the entourage, discussing the corporation and its upcoming plans for the future.
