Webb Tutt, head coach of the West Alabama Preparatory Titans, said the team will go back to fundamentals in practice this week.

The Titans are recovering from a season opening 40-6 loss to the defending state champion Marengo Academy Longhorns last Thursday night.

The Titans began to move the ball in the second half, but Tutt said that was against the Longhorns’ second team. "We could have moved the ball against the first team if we would execute.

The Titan coach said he had only watched film of the game once and just wanted to bury it.

The Titans have had to face two tough teams, Southern Academy in a scrimmage and Marengo Academy in the opener. "Hopefully, that will make us better in the long run. We might not see many teams better than those two."

WAP will host the Coosa Valley Academy Rebels from Harpersville Friday evening. The kickoff is a 7:30 p.m.

Tutt expects a good crowd for the home opener. A sizable crowd traveled with the team to Linden last week.

To have an opportunity to compete with Coosa Valley, WAP is "getting back to the basics. We’re going to work hard and simply some things and get people to move rather than stand still.

Had the players been worried more about playing these early tough opponents than their own effort? "That’s what we preached all along, if we take care of ourselves, then everything else will fall into place."
