A.L. Johnson’s Michael McGhee might as well have driven the bus and cooked the pre-game dinner for the Eagles on Friday night.

The sophomore quarterback single-handily dominated visiting Carrollton in a 20-12 win for A.L. Johnson.

In the first quarter, McGhee began his scoring binge with a one-yard touchdown plunge to put the Eagles up early.

McGhee’s most exciting play of the game didn’t come until the third quarter, though. After a Carrollton score that evened the game against the Eagles, McGhee took a kick-off at his own 18-yard-line and returned it 82 yards to take away Carrollton’s momentum.

And in the final quarter, McGhee again scored when he kept the ball and dashed 30 yards on a quarterback keeper.

Along with McGhee’s strong offensive performance, Jessie Henton led A.L. Johnson with 10 tackles and one sack. William Henton made six stops in the game, and Antjuan Coats also had six tackles. Santana Ruffin had one interception for the Eagles (2-0).

Next week, A.L. Johnson travels to Tuscaloosa to face American Christian Academy, who soundly defeated John Essex 49-18 on Friday.
