“Celebrating Black History and Heritage in the Canebrake,” sponsored by the Association of Black Genealogists of Alabama and the Demopolis Public Library, June 19 at Majo’s Activity Center south of Demopolis on Highway 43. For more information, call 1-205-592-0783.
A Juneteenth Celebration 1:00 p.m. bring a friend and enjoy this celebration! It will include train rides and horseback riding. There will be a special appearance by the African Stilt Walker. Barbecue, fried fish, homemade ice cream, and soft drinks will be available for a price. Vendors are encouraged to stop by the museum and reserve a space today. The Classy Citizens of Demopolis, a senior citizens organization, sponsored by the Demopolis Parks and Recreation Department invites you to our 7th annual Juneteenth Celebration Saturday, June 19, 2004. This event commemorates the 139th anniversary of the celebration of the first Juneteenth held in 1865. Activities will be held from 6:00pm ’til 8:00 pm at Christian Chapel Life Center in Demopolis, AL. The program will feature local church choirs, soloists, a guest speaker and a taste of local home cooked “Soul Food”. This is an event for the whole family.

Vacation Bible School will be held at Gallion Baptist Church from June 21-25. School starts at 8:30 a.m. every day, and concludes at 11:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “An exotic Far East race to the ‘Son’.” Gallion Baptist is located at 400 Gallion Road. For more information, call 289-3483.
VBS in Demopolis
Vacation Bible School will be held at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church from June 21-25. School starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. Classes for Kindergarten-Adults. This year’s theme is “Let’s Journey with Jesus”. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call 289-0804.
The Demopolis Public Library will meet at 5:15 p.m. to discuss filtering on library computers, the Internet Policy and Internet Use agreement.

The four candidates for Demopolis mayor will speak to the Lions Club at 6 p.m. today at Ellis V Restaurant on U.S. Highway 80 East. Everyone is invited to hear what the candidates have to say.

Preschoolers, get ready for some toe-tapping fun with the Old Fellows Band.
These gentlemen will play some favorite sing-a-long songs at 10 am at the Demopolis Public Library.

Marengo County Disabled American Veterans Chapter 31 monthly meeting will be held in the council chambers of Demopolis City Hall at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 24, 2004. All current and prospective members are encouraged to attend this meeting.

The regular meeting of the West Alabama Mental Health Board is scheduled today at the Spring Hill Home located at 1300 Old Spring Hill Road in Demopolis. The public is invited to attend.

The Arts Council of Thomasville will present “Nunsense”, a musical by Dan Groggin on July 9 and 10 at 7:00 p.m. and July 11 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thomasville High School Cafetorium. Boys who will be in grades one through four in the fall are invited to take part in the Prairie District Day Camp sponsored by the Boy Scouts. The event will be held Saturday, July 24, from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Lions Park in Greensboro.
