Titans get experience, face tough test Friday

The West Alabama Preparatory Titans football team defeated the Calvary Christian Academy Watchmen 41-14 last Friday at Titan Field.

It was a good opportunity for Titan Head Football Coach Webb Tutt to see all the players on his roster in action. In last week’s practice, it was an easier time for the starters after weeks of intense practice.

The (4-1) Titans will face a tougher opponent this week as they travel to Jackson Academy. Jackson is undefeated and ranked #4 by state sportswriters. "(They) are probably one of the better teams in private schools."

If WAP expects a win against Jackson, the running backs will have to have a good night, and the offensive line will have to be strong.

Jackson stunts on defense, he said, "on every angle on every play. We’ve got to take our steps and block our gaps."

The Titans had a good practice Monday, Tutt said, and " a good physical practice’ was planned for Tuesday. It is hard to simulate the speed of the Jackson defense in practice, he said.

The WAP coach said the team will need a good crowd to travel with them Friday to face a formable opponent. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m.
