Chief Justice Roy Moore reasserted his innocence Wednesday as he entered the Alabama Judicial Building for a trial that could oust him from office for refusing to obey a federal court order to remove his Ten Commandments monument from its rotunda.
Attorney General Bill Pryor, whose office is prosecuting Moore, has asked the Court of the Judiciary to remove the Chief Justice from office for "Moore’s sensational flouting of a valid federal injunction."
Charged with six counts of violating the Judicial Canons of Ethics, Moore refused US District Judge Myron Thompson’s order to move the 5,300 pound granite monument.
The Demopolis attorney believes "the judge violated the canons of ethics when he failed to obey a federal court judge.
