A man on a bicycle was hit by a truck Monday night as he rode along Highway 43, according to Greene County Sheriff Johnny Isaac.
A 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven by Robert Salliday Jr., 30, of Demopolis was traveling south on Highway 43 just before crossing into Marengo County when the incident occurred between 6 and 6:30 p.m, Isaac said.
The exact location was the 159.35 mile marker, according to Alabama State Trooper John Reese.
The victim was Leslie E. Salley, 40.
A call was received by Demopolis Police at 6:22, said Demopolis Director of Public Safety Jeff Manuel.
Salliday was stopped by officers of the Demopolis Police Department and Greene County Sheriff’s Department at approximately 6:45 after he had crossed the river bridge.
Salliday said there were foggy conditions at the time, and he thought he had hit a deer, Reese said.
Salley was transferred to DCH Regional Medical Center. He was in good condition as of Tuesday afternoon, said Sammy Watson, director of community relations for DCH, and was expected to be discharged that afternoon.
The incident is under investigation by State Trooper Dorough of the Tuscaloosa office of the Alabama State Troopers, Isaac said.
