Robert Lee Jackson

Robert Lee Jackson, 71, of Marion, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at his home.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 22, 2003, at Marion United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Teasley and Rev. James L. Waters Jr. officiating.

Burial was held in the Marion Cemetery under the direction of Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel.

He was born Aug. 24, 1932, in Perry County. He was a 1952 graduate of Perry County High School. He was in the Air Force and served in the the Korean War.

Mr. Jackson was a postal employee with the Marion Post Office for 23 years.

He was a member of the board for Marion City Schools for a number of years. A dedicated member of the Marion United Methodist Church, he had served on the Administrative Council, on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and the Nominating Committee.

Mr. Jackson was a member of the Thad Davis Sunday School Class. He was also a member of the Marion Serviteer Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Offie T. and Nellie Mitchell Jackson; a sister, Ravenelle J. Williams; and brother, Otis F. Jackson.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Spencer Jackson of Marion; a son, David Alan Jackson (Janice Barton) of Aliceville; a daughter, Judi Jackson Hightower (William) of Troy; six grandchildren, Matt Hightower of Troy, Molly Hightower of Troy, Jason Jackson of Aliceville, Daniel Hightower of Troy, Sarah Jackson of Aliceville and Ethan Hightower of

Troy; and a brother, Rev. Edward L. Jackson of Dunedin, Fla.

Pallbearers were Richard Douglas, Chip Spencer, Wayne Osburn, Don Morris, Tony Long and Charles Smith.

Honorary pallbearers were the Thad Davis Sunday School Class at Marion United Methodist Church, the Marion Serviteer Club, Dr. Julian Howell, Ken Worrell, Earl Jones, Tommy Wallace, David Mills, (a very special friend) W.W. Hammond, Tim Abrams, Gerald Hale, Cecil Crawford and Phillip Morris.
