The Greensboro Police Department and law enforcement in Perry County are seeking a suspect in a high speed chase Sunday morning.
Officers Willie Lewis and Ed Jones tried to stop a brown Chevrolet Impala Sunday at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Highway 14 near Piggly Wiggly in Greensboro, but the driver, Anthony Paige, would not heed the police vehicle’s flashing lights.
The officers were seeking to pull over Paige because of warrants they had on unpaid traffic tickets, Greensboro Police Chief Claude Hamilton said Monday.
In addition, the car was reported stolen by a female friend of Paige, the chief said. Another female was in the passenger seat that Sunday morning.
The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed east on Highway 14. The vehicle’s speed, at times, was as fast as 100-miles.
The suspect was chased into Perry County, and Paige bailed out of the vehicle leaving the passenger behind. Perry County authorities were notified.
The suspect is still at large.
