Do you really know your next-door neighbor? There are over 200 registered Criminal Sex Offenders in the State of Alabama today. With the over whelming number of offenders in the state, the legislature of Alabama passed the Community Notification Act to better prepare the public for these criminals.

Linden Police Chief Jeff Laduron has one of these offenders, Scott Tucker in his city and he knows all to well the precautions the city must take to protect its citizens.

Laduron also stated that the police department had to do some initial research into the neighborhood that Tucker moved into once he was released from jail. The reason they do this research is because there are certain rules as to where Tucker can live. It has to been away from schools and places where children and youth are located.

The reason why the state has the policy of the letter is so they can keep tabs on where these people are currently living and to make sure they are complying with the provisions of the Community Notification Act.

It is a Class C felony for any criminal sex offender to violate any of these provisions:

No criminal sex offender shall be allowed to establish a residence or accept employment within 2,000 feet of the property on which any public school, private or parochial school, licensed day care center, or any other child care facility.

No criminal sex offender shall be allowed to establish a residence or any other living accommodation within 1,000 feet of the property on which of any of his former victim(s), or the victims’ immediate family members reside.

No criminal sex offender shall be allowed to establish a residence or any other living accommodation where a minor resides, except as provided by law.
