Pee-Wee Basketball Highlights

The Jr. NBA/WNBA Pee Wee Basketball League organized by the Demopolis Parks and Recreation Department opened its 2004 season schedule Saturday, January 10. This program is opened to boys and girls ages 7-15. Games will be played every Saturday at U.S. Jones Gym through February, 28. Games begin at 9:00 am with 5 games scheduled for the day. Age divisions are broken down as follows: 7-8 year olds, 9-10 year olds, 11-12 year olds and 13-15 year olds. I would like to thank the following businesses for their continued support as sponsors for this season. Games from Saturday January 10

7-8 Boys and Girls

The UPS Store – 8

Clear Mountain Spring Water –

Although this was not a high scoring game it wa filled with a lot of excitement. Both teams connected for 4 points in the 1st quarter. The UPS Store wrapped up 2 more in the 2nd to take a 6-4 half-time lead. Clear Mountain was unable to fill the bucket in the 3rd as The UPS Store sealed the scoring with another 2 points

to pull ahead by 4, 8-4. Clear Mountain tapped the iron for 2 in the final period but it was not enough as The UPS Store held on to win 8-6. Braden Spiller led The UPS Store as he shipped 4 of the 8 followed by Tripp Perry and Daniel Lewis each with 2 points.

Other players for The UPS Store included Stephen Stewart, Jordon Williams and Sam Renner. Tyler Merriweather led Clear Mountain as he sank 4 followed by Ron’Recus Lawson with the other 2. Other on the team included Chandler Stuedeman, William Tutt, Charlie Parten and Alexis Jones.

9 year old Boys

Regions Bank

– 19

Red Team – 19

Regions Bank doubled the Reds interest as they led 6-3 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Region’s Bank stayed hot as they deposited 7 more in the 2nd to stretch their lead to 13-5.

The Red team finally got hot

with 8 points in the 3rd to close the gap to 2 at 15-13. The Red team trailed by 3 as time was ticking away when Xavier Johnson put up a 3 point attempt just before the buzzer. As the buzzer sounded the ball slipped through the nylon tying the game at 19.

Tommie Reese Jr. led Regions as he calculated a total of 10 points followed by Devin Burrell with 7 and Rodney Harris adding 2. Other members included Rob Boutwell, Payne Hasty, Vicotria Dickie, and Chris Foster. Xavier Johnson led the Red team with 8 points followed by Kadarius Ingram with 6, William Stewart with 2 and Malcolm Merriweather. .Other members included Louis Stuedeman

10 year old Boys and Girls

Windwood Inn – 14

Blue Team – 10

Windwood Inn secured the nylon with 6 points in the 1st to take a 6-1 lead. The Blue Team managed to put 5 on the board in the 2nd quarter to tie the game at 6 all. Neither team’s offense did well in the 3rd as Windwood Inn sank one free throw to take a 1 point lead, 7-6 going into the final quarter. Windwood Inn fared a little better in the 4th as they rallied for 7 while the Blue team managed 4 points for a final score of 14-10. Pierre Thomas led Windwood Inn as he reserved the iron for 9 points followed by Teryl Ratliff with 4 and

Tyler More connecting for 1 point. Other members included Jarius Rembert, Justin Durant and Myles DeGraffenreid. The Blue team had five team member contribute to the scoring as Parker Coleman led the team with 4 followed by Jacob Roemen and Justin Harris each with 2 points whiled Timothy Williams and Darius Benison each added one.. The other team member was Theophis Gilmore

11-13 Boys and Girls

Team Xerox – 19

Cemex

Corporation – 16

This game was close from start to finish. Team Xerox took a 1st quarter lead 6-4. Cemex took a 2 point lead, 10-8,

at half-time as they dumped in 6 2nd quarter points while Team Xerox tallied 2 points. Cemex maintained the lead at the end of the 3rd

but it was only by one, 14-13, as they dropped in 4 while Team Xerox zapped the iron for 5. Team Xerox

took back the lead in the final quarter as they slipped in 6 points while Cemex could only mange 2 points. Team Xerox was led by 3 players as Delton Rhodes led his team with 7 net busters followed by Tyler Smith and Tre Jones each with 6. Other team members included Brandon Hay and Delanee Reid. Cemex was led by Jalen Armstead with a game high 10 points followed by William Hill as he added the other 6. Other team member included James Dickie, Bill Holemon and Joel Coddington.

13-15 year old Boys and Girls

Holiday Inn Express – 20

AMA Designs – 15

This age group played 2, 10 minute halves. Holiday Inn Express scored in double figures as they tacked on 10 points to lead by 3 at halftime, while AMA Designs stenciled the nylon with 7. Holiday Inn matched their scoring output in the 2nd half with another 10 while AMA Designs added 8 but was not enough to overtake Holiday Inn’s lead. Adrian James led Holiday Inn with 11 points followed by brother Anthony James with 4, Rick Boone with 3 and Chris Jones with 2. The other team member was John Scott.

Five players scored for AMA. Walter Evans led the team with 6 points followed by Laura Bates with 4, Conrad Murdock and Justin Hardy each adding 2 and Kelvin Wilson with 1. The other team member was David Moore.

All age groups drew for teams this past week. Next Saturday the 9&10 year olds will combine to make 4 teams while the other age groups will draw each week.
