Marion-The losing streak is finally over for the 1-13 West Alabama Prep Lady Titans varsity girl’s basketball team as they knock off the Marion Academy Lady Panthers 39-29 Tuesday night.
It’s been a long and somewhat frustrating season for the Lady Titans and head coach Sondia Christian. And now that the Lady Titans have their first taste winning, coach Christian hopes that the taste of winning will become addictive and the desire for more will only grow.
“We have really just learned how to finally play the game of basketball. And I think we have reached a new starting point. I know that with this win the girl’s will now have a new attitude on the court. I can already see it on their faces,” Christian said.
For the Lady Titans the difference Tuesday night came from their outstanding performance from the free throw line. The Lady Titans hit 16-of-19 for a season high 84 percent.
“The things that we have been working on all season are starting to pay off,’ Christian said.
Another factor in Tuesday night’s win was the impressive play of Samantha Sullivan.
Sullivan led the way for the Lady Titans with 21 of the teams’ 39 points and 12 rebounds.
“She played outstanding, but this win didn’t come about from just one player. We won because we played hard, we played as a team and we never quite,” Christian said.
