PENSACOLA, FL- Five Tigers reached double figures in scoring, led by Yolanda Thomas’ 15, but it would not be enough as West Alabama allowed more than 80 points for only the second time this year in an 85-71 loss at West Florida (14-4, 5-1 GSC) on Monday.

West Florida shot 51.2 percent from the floor in the game’s opening half, and coupled with a smothering defense that forced 15 UWA turnovers, the Argonauts raced out to a huge 48-21 lead at intermission. The Tigers got the offense on track in the second half, scoring 50 points on 20-of-44 shooting from the field, but could not overcome the 27-point halftime deficit.

Margo Porter scored 13 points and grabbed a team leading seven rebounds, while teammate Peaches Powe connected on 5-of-8 shots from the field en route to scoring 11 points. Veronica Lee chipped in with 11 points and Nikki Jones rounded out the top UWA scorers with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field.
