UWA men defeat Montevallo

LIVINGSTON, AL- Nic Gragg scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds, as West Alabama defeated Montevallo (13-6, 4-3) 75-68 on Saturday for its first Gulf South Conference win of the season.

The Tigers connected on 12-of-26 shots (46.2 percent) in the first half, including six three-pointers as UWA built a four-point (33-29) lead at intermission. West Alabama made six more three-pointers and connected on all 14 free-throw attempts in the second half to hold on for the win.

Jared Hembree scored 14 points for the Tigers, while teammate Courtney Brown added 13 points. Cliff Mathis was also in double-figures with 11 points and four rebounds. Issac Greenwood contributed eight points and four assists, while Joseph Baker added six points, three assists and three steals.

Marcus Lewis led the Falcons with 15 points, connecting on all seven of his free-throw attempts. Marcus Kennedy had 12 points for Montevallo, while teammate Tareick Leach added 10 points and six rebounds. D.J. Towns led the Falcons on the glass with seven rebounds while scoring eight points.

The Tigers (4-16, 1-6) return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Alabama-Huntsville with the tip off set for 7:00 p.m.
