Linden-The Marengo Academy Varsity Boy’s basketball team pulled off the upset of year Tuesday night, defeating the Eagles of Jackson Academy with a last second shot by Sophomore Josh Dunn.

Trailing 55-54 with only 7 seconds remaining, Senior Adam Cochran stepped into the Eagles’ passing lane and stole the ball. Cochran then made a quick pass to Dunn who dropped in a pretty 5-footer with 1.7 seconds remaining to go ahead of the Eagles.

Jackson was unable to get another shot off and the Horns escape with a 1-point thriller.

“The win culminated a season that showed tremendous heart and improvement by a young varsity team,” Horns head coach Billy Fultz said.

Tuesday night’s win was particularly nice for the Horns considering that earlier in the year, Jackson had defeated the Horns by more than a 20-point margin.

Senior Adam Cochran led the way for the Horns with 22 points, followed by Freshman Thomas Fultz with 12 points. Josh Dunn ended with 10 points on the night while both junior Jamie Singleton and freshman Jacob Harris contributed 6 points apiece.
