The Demopolis Chamber of Commerce has brought a much-needed club back to the Demopolis community. This club was once a mainstay of Demopolis, but through out the years it just fell off.

Well now the Chamber is picking the idea back up and are going to run with it. The Demopolis Newcomers Club is an organization of new residents to the area mixed with a few current residents and they discuss what the city has to offer them.

The Demopolis Newcomers Club will host a fun evening of “Bunco” on Friday, March 19. All residents new to the Demopolis area within the last two years are invited to attend.

Reservations are REQUIRED for the evening and may be made by calling Pat at the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce at 289-0270 by March 16 for your dinner reservations. The cost of the evening will be $10.00 per couple.

This is the first social event for the recently formed organization. The purpose of the club is to extend a warm welcome to newcomers and to offer a variety of social events and activities in an effort to acquaint new residents with the area and to promote friendships.

The Executive Director Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce Jay Shows said that the club in the past was a way for the new residents of Demopolis to mingle and learn about what Demopolis really has to offer. He also said this is what the new club wants to do.

“We want to become the official ‘Welcome Wagon’ for all the new residents of this area,” Shows said.

He said thanks to the local banks, the club has been able to put together ‘Welcome Bags’ that contain information about local clubs like the art council, Canebrake Players, and the Pink Ladies. He also said that the club meets with a lunch/dinner type of feel, so the couples are mingle and meet other couples.
