ASIA Coach of the year

The Demopolis Times is pleased to announce coach Robert Jarvis (Warrior Academy) as the 2004 AISA Girl’s All-Area Coach of the Year. In his eleventh year as head coach of the Lady Braves, coach Jarvis has lead his team to their second AISA Class A state championship with one of the most impressive records this season at (27-0). Coach Jarvis has led the lady Braves to ten appearances in the AISA state playoffs where they have made four Final Four appearances, won two state championships and been state runner-up once. His record over the past four seasons at Warrior Academy is (102-7) with a career record of (222-39).

The Demopolis Times is pleased to announce coach Michelle Ivey (Marion Military Institute) as the 2004 AISA Boy’s All-Area Coach of the Year. Coach Ivey is the Director of Athletics for both the high school and junior college athletic programs at MMI. She coaches both the girls and boy’s basketball teams this year to appearances in the state championship. Coach Ivey started the girl’s athletic program in the fall of 1997 at MMI and took over as head coach of the boy’s team in 2000. Since, she has led the boy’s to the AISA State Tournament every year with two Final Four appearances and two State Runner-Up trophies. The Tigers have won the Area Title three out of the last four years. Coach Ivey was named the Boys Basketball Coach of the Year in 2000-2001 by the Alabama Sportswriters Association and the Class 1A West Area II Boys Basketball Coach of the Year in 2002-2003.

The Tigers finished this season with an impressive (25-4) record, while the Lady Tigers finished with a (23-5) record and made their first appearance in the AISA State Tournament with three freshmen and two sophomores in the starting lineup.
