WAP Titans even up season with 12-2 win

Both the Western Alabama Prep Titans baseball team and Lady Titans softball team’s were victors in similar fashion Thursday over the Central Christian Academy Warriors and Lady Warriors, as both teams recorded double-digit runs to ten-run rule CCA in five innings.

The Titans climbed back to a 500 mark on the season as they routed the CCA Warriors 12 – 2 and improve to 8-8 on the season.

“We simply hit better than they did,” Titans head coach Walker Reynolds said.

May (3-1) on the season, pitched all 5 innings giving up 2 runs, one of them unearned, on 3 hits and 6 walks, while earning 6K’s.

WAP jumped on CCA in the first inning by loading the bases with their first three hitters. Mick Letterin led off with a walk, Shane Hilchey reached first on an error and pitcher Kevin May followed with a walk. With one out, Lucky Walton ripped a single to left that scored two runs. May recorded the second out of the inning on an attempt to score from third on a wild pitch, but Michael Bozeman delivered at the plate with an infield single up the middle to drive in the third run of the inning.

May held the Warriors scoreless the first three innings, while the Titans sent 10 batters to the plate in a 5 run third inning. May walked to open the inning, Chad Seale singled to right, then with two out, Cody Key tripled up the gap into left centerfield to drive in two runs. Shawn Singleton followed with an infield single to push another run across the plate. Singleton advanced to third on two wild pitches, while designated hitter Joe Magro walked and stole second before Letterin slashed a single to right to bring in the last two runs of the inning.

It was the top of the fourth that the Warriors were able to push 2 runs across the plate. May gave up a walk to start the inning, followed by an error on a fly to right field. Both runners then advanced on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out and a single.

The game was called in the fifth inning when WAP scored four runs before CCA could collect the first out of the inning. Key walked and stole second, Singleton singled and advanced to second on a wild throw to first, which scored Key. Magro then singled to left scoring Singleton and moving to second on the throw to the plate. Letterin followed with his second single and third RBI of the game. Letterin scampered to second on the throw to the plate and moved to third on a stolen base. Letterin then scored on a wild pitch to end the game.

The Titans improve to (8-8) on the season and (3-0) in area play. They return to action Monday when they face Marion Military Institute here at the Demopolis Sports Plex.

The West Alabama Prep Lady Titans collected an easy 7 runs in the first inning of play Thursday evening and earned their third win of the season with a 12-0 victory over the Central Christian Academy Lady Warriors.

Along with their impressive seven runs in the first inning, the Lady Titans also collected two runs in the second and three runs in the third, not to mention a Whitney Martin homerun.

“We’re getting better every day”, Lady Titans head coach Paul Willingham said. “Their making believers out of themselves.”

Martin (3-4) not only had a big day at the plate for the Lady Titans but also looked impressive in the circle as she pitched a complete came, five innings without giving up a single run. With the win the Lady Titans improve to 3-8 on the season and will play Warrior Academy on Monday at the Demopolis Sports Plex.
