LIVINGSTON–The troops are coming home…. well almost home. The troops of the 287th Transportation Company from Livingston were scheduled to finally return to their loved ones in Sumter County.

The company was scheduled to leave Fort Benning and arrive in Livingston to a hero welcome around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Well, after family members and friends had gathered to meet the soldiers there was a whisper of bad news going around.

‘They are a little delayed, should be here by 7:00-8:00 p.m.’

So after the news, everyone left the building, including the wives waiting for their husbands and vice versa, mothers waiting for sons and daughters, and children waiting for fathers and mothers. So at 7:00 p.m. everyone comes back and is ready for the troops to pull up any minute when another piece of bad news comes through.

‘They have finally finished with debriefing and they’ve just left’

Wow, what a shock to the family members with their American flags and welcome home banners. The troops are scheduled to arrive now until 10:30 Thursday night.

Please read the Saturday edition for the story and the pictures of these true American heroes returning home.
