Akron man arrested for kidnapping

An Akron man was arrested Tuesday for endangering and kidnapping a Sawyerville woman.

Tom Evans, 45, of 131 North Cypress Street in Akron, was arrested and charged with kidnapping, second degree, carrying as pistol without a permit and reckless endangerment.

Evans and Jaunita B. Pasteur, of Sawyerville, were traveling in the same vehicle on Highway 69 north to Tuscaloosa.

According to the Hale County Sheriff’s Department, Evans allegedly shot across Pasteur’s chest with a .32 cal handgun during an argument.

He forced her out of the vehicle and then back into the vehicle.

They drove to a Shell Station on Highway 69 in Tuscaloosa, where she was able to call authorities.

Pasteur, 38, of 105 Pelican Road in Sawyerville, was arrested for two counts of NWNI (Demopolis), NWNI (Marengo County) and two counts of NWNI (Greene County).

She was also charged Wednesday by the Demopolis Police Department with contempt of court.
