The West Alabama Prep Titans golf team won their tenth match of the season Thursday shooting an impressive 327-overall score to beat the Marion Academy Panthers. Believe it or not, these young kids know golf and in only their first year of team play find themselves in contention for the AISA state championship.

In Thursday’s match with the Panthers it was senior Joe Magro leading the way for the Titans with an impressive round of 78. Jake Rich came back strong on the back nine of the Ravine Golf Course to shoot a 79. Scott Mitchell posted an 80 on the day, while Drew Waldrop finished with a 90.

For the Panthers, who posted a 375-overall score on the day, Colby Smith lead the way in his round with Magro shooting an 82.

The Titans (10-1) have already qualified for the state tournament, which will be held at the treacherous Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Greenville on April 26th and 27th. The Titans will have one more match to tighten up their golf skills next week when they travel to Camden for their last regular season match on April 22.

If the Titans can handle the links style course in Greenville like they handle The Ravine come April 26th and 27th, they will capture the first AISA golf state championship in the school’s history. But that task will not be an easy one. Greenville is known to be one of the toughest public courses in the state of Alabama.
