The West Alabama Prep Titans continued their undefeated rein over area opponents Thursday night with a 17-3 win over the Marion Military Institute Tigers. After getting off to a somewhat slow beginning against the Tigers, the Titans (7-0) rebounded in the fourth and fifth innings to collect 12 runs to ten-run rule the Tigers in five innings of play.

Nick Laduron got the start on the hill for the Titans going three innings earning 7K’s, while giving up three runs on two hits with three walks. The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning to take an early 2-1 lead after one. But the Titans answered the call at the plate in the bottom of the second collecting four runs to make it a 4-2 game. Laduron would give up one more Tigers run in the bottom of the third to close the gap at 4-3.

WAP head coach Walker Reynolds went to his bullpen after the third inning bringing in junior Cody Key in relief. Key quickly shut down any further Tigers hopes of pulling off the upset. Key went two innings earning 3K’s, while giving up no hits on no runs with no walks.

“Cody got the job done.” Reynolds said. “I was real pleased with our pitching efforts today.”

With Key on the mound taking care of business, the Titans were able to focus more attention on resuscitating their bats in the fourth inning. Signs of a pulse were evident by the end of the fourth as the Titans collected six runs to make it a 10-3 ball game.

Things only got better from there for the Titans as they continued to rack up run after run in the fifth inning to go on to capture the area win.

Leading the way for the Titans with the stick Thursday was senior Chad Seale, who went 2-for-4 with 2RBIs. Senior Kevin May came through at the plate as well, as he went 1-for-2 with a three-run double. Junior Walton Luckie followed Seale with two doubles going 2-for-3 on the day.

With the win the Titans improve their record to (13-9) on the season and (7-0) in area play with only one area game to go in the regular season.
