Only felony will be in the fun

DEMOPOLIS– There’s been a murder in them there hills and some lucky citizens of Demopolis and the rest of Marengo County can help solve the case and find the killer. The Demopolis Chamber of Commerce is hosting a murder mystery dinner entitled “Death In Dem Thar Hills” on April 30 at the Demopolis Civic Center at 6:30 p.m.

Kelley Smith, who works for the chamber said this is the first time the chamber, has done a murder mystery dinner and it’s shaping up to be a lot of fun for everyone. She also said the background of the story goes like this; the story opens in Arizona during the days of “The Wild West” in a sleepy little town called Cactus Gulch.

She said all of the local citizens are getting ready to honor one of Cactus Gulch’s most notorious residents, Dusty Jones. She also said during the dinner Dusty Jones drops dead and then that’s where the fun really begins.

“This will be a night of comedy and suspense all rolled into one special evening,” Smith said.

All the characters will be played by members of the local Canebrake Players except for a few lucky guests who will receive small roles during the dinner. She said there are tickets still available for the dinner and they cost $20, included in the cost of the ticket are a bar-b-que dinner with all the fixings and a lot of good humor. She also said tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce in Downtown Demopolis.

“Everyone that attends should dress casually in their cowboy boots and hats and their best bandannas,” Smith said.

One of the Canebrake players who will be in the production is Jan McDonald and she said this would be a very funny evening. She also said none of the characters have scripts all they gave us was a bio with some background of our character.

She said the audience will basically act as investigators in the murder and try and solve the case.

“It should be a very interesting night since we have no scripts to go by,” McDonald said.
