The 12-1 West Alabama Prep Titans golf team completed their regular season of play on Thursday with a tri-match win over both Monroe Academy and Wilcox Academy.
The Titans, who are in their first year of competition, have earned the right to compete in this year’s AISA state finals, which will be held on Monday and Tuesday, April 26th, and 27th at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Greenville.
The Titans shot a combined score of 337 through 18 holes at the Roland Cooper State Park Golf Course to take a double win over both Monroe Academy (348) and Wilcox Academy (349).
Leading the way for the Titans was sophomore Jake Rich with the low score of 79. Following Rich was sophomore Scott Mitchell (81), senior Joe Magro (87) and eighth grader Rob Rorie (90).
The WAP Titans recieved more great news on Friday when one of their own, senior Joe Magro signed to play golf with East Mississippi Community College in Scooba, Mississippi.
Magro, a student at West Alabama Prep, is the son of David Magro, Donna Pope, and Michael Pope. Magro is a four-year letterman with the Titans football team. As a senior at WAP, Magro was named to The Demopolis Times All-Area Times 22 team. Magro has played golf for the Titans for one year and was named the most valuable player for the basketball team this season.
Magro says he plans to attend EMCC in the fall and major in turf management.
