EUTAW-The May 10 Greene County Commission meeting was highlighted by the acceptance of the request from Greenetrack to allow Sunday alcohol sales with absolutely zero opposition except for chairman Chip Beeker Jr.
J.D. Smith approached the commission with a few items one of them being a new road resurfacing map that has all the roads that Federal money can be used to resurface as opposed to the non-highlighted roads that were county responsibility.
“I need the commission to approve this map basically showing all the roads that we can use Federal dollars on,” Smith said, “I had to fight the State Department about our roads because they wanted to take some them away.”
The commission approved the map and allowed the chairman to sign them, so they could be sent to Montgomery for the final signatures. Another item was a request from a county employee who suffered an accident while working for the county and he wanted to request FMLA leave, which would give him 12 months unpaid, but with insurance time to heal.
Mary Craig Rice, who is also a county employee turned in her resignation to the commission to do health reasons that won’t allow her to continue working for the county. The commission approved Johnny Archibald’s request that his business be allowed to sale alcohol. They also approved the citizen participation plan for this year.
The commission discussed the LWCF program for 2004, which would allow for energy funding. The program is part of ADECA.
