Arrangements have been made to use the Faulkner University field as one of the venues in the AHSAA State Finals baseball tournament May 12-15 in Montgomery, according to Dan Washburn, Executive Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Association.
Paterson Field and the Auburn University-Montgomery field have served as tournament sites since the inception of State Finals format in 2001, but the AUM field will not be available this year since AUM will be hosting its conference tournament at the same time.
“We ask Faulkner University for help and they graciously agreed to let us use their field for our tournament,” said Washburn. “We are fortunate that we have another fine baseball facility in Montgomery that we can use for our state baseball championships.”
The four games normally scheduled at AUM will be played at Faulkner. The series openers for Classes 2A and 1A are scheduled Thursday (May 13) at 4 and 7 p.m., respectively, and the openers for Classes 4A and 3A are set Friday (May 14) at the same times.
Coach Brent Barker of Faulkner has pledged his full support for the prep tournament. He and assistant Ben Brack will coordinate the four games played at the Faulkner field. The University’s main entrance on the Atlanta Highway will be designated as the tournament entrance.
The Montgomery Parks&Recreation Department is making an effort to add some additional seating at the Faulkner facility. The Department is also providing the maintenance of the playing field.
