Officials with the York Police Department still are unable to offer public information on a homicide that occurred in the Sumter County town over the weekend.
According to Police Chief Ricky Thomas, important parts of an investigation — including crucial witness interviews — are not complete.
However, District Attorney Greg Griggers confirmed Tuesday that Andres Rumley was the victim of a homicide in York over the weekend.
Griggers, like Thomas, could offer little information about the case until key parts of the investigation are complete.
“I can tell you Chief Thomas is working extremely hard, and he’s not at a point where he can give information yet,” Griggers said.
According to unofficial reports, Rumley was involved in an altercation over the weekend with another man who is currently in custody. After the altercation, the man shot Rumley numerous times — some of those shots at point-blank.
More information on the homicide is expected to be released today.
