Devin Goodwin is named to North-South All-Star team

The top 36 upcoming senior prep baseball players in the state have been named to the North-South teams for the eighth annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week here July 12-17, according to the Alabama High School Athletic Directors&Coaches Association.

Virtually all of the student athletes selected will be signing college scholarships or entering the 2004 professional baseball draft during the next 12 months. The two teams will open up the week’s all-star games on Monday, July 12, with a 4 p.m. doubleheader.

The Sports Week will include in-state all-star games in volleyball, boys and girls basketball, football, baseball, softball and soccer. The event will also include clinics and sessions for coaches, athletic directors, cheerleader coaches and officials. A product exposition and other related activities will be held throughout the week.

NORTH

The coaches for the South baseball team are Kevin Raley of Robertsdale, Jeff Linder of Rehobeth and Barry Hightower of Opelika.

Members of the South team include:

Infielders: Nick Davis of G. W. Long, Clint Wofford of Washington County, Aaron Weatherford of Fairhope, and Parker McCaleb of Bibb County.

Outfielders: Nick Love of Enterprise, Thomas Carroll of Alabama Christian, Devin Goodwin of Demopolis, Trey Pollard of St. Paul’s, and Dustin Green of Isabella.

Pitchers: Josh Sowell of Headland, Kevin Fox of Mary Montgomery, Evan Crawford of Prattville, Colby Rasmus of Russell County, Austin Adams of Stanhope Elmore, Bryan Woodall of Central-Phenix City, and Michael Davitt of Davidson

Catchers: Allen Aubin of UMS-Wright and Brock Kelley of Opp.

SOUTH

Coaching the North all-star baseball team are William Booth of Hartselle, Chad Slaten of Childersburg, Pat Hamrick of Thompson and Brent Gillespie of Hatton.

The members of the North team are:

Infielders: Ryan Reece of Grissom, Mason Terry of Austin, Clint Randolph of Hackleburg, Dale Brasher of Winfield, and Jonathan Waugh of Oxford.

Outfielders: Ross Parker of Hatton, Earl Bennett of West End, Chris Vargo of Mountain Brook, Ben Jones of Decatur, and Marshall Young of Homewood.

Pitchers: Josh Styes of Clay-Chalkville, Taylor Edwards of Pleasant Grove, Thomas Morrison of Mountain Brook, Kyle Roberson of Clay-Chalkville, Zelous Wheeler of Childersburg, and Nick Wheeler of Hokes Bluff,
