Judson College’s new Director of Alumnae Relations and annual Fund, Jessica Davis Mitchell, might be able to claim 2 Corinthians 12:13 as her life verse: “Behold the third time I am ready to come to you . . . .”
She came to Judson the first time as an entering freshman “because I liked the feel of a smaller school,” she said. “My sister went to a large university, but I decided to come here where everybody knew my name. I’ve never regretted this decision.”
Mitchell majored in biology and minored in chemistry and web site design. She was active in the Science Club, the GENEius program, Student Government, Beta Beta Beta and served as senior class president.
Mitchell returned to Judson in August, 2001 as an admission representative before going to work as a medical assistant with Dr. Judi Favor–a Judson trustee–of Sparks and Favor PC in Birmingham.
Mitchell came back to Judson last spring for the third time just one month before J-Day, the college’s annual alumnae celebration, as Alumnae Director. “It was a busy time,” she recalled, “but it paid off. J-Day was successful and actually a lot of fun! Next year will be even better.”
Mitchell’s goal in her new position is to encourage alums to stay involved in their school. “They can visit and participate in what we’re doing and they can give to help others come here,” she said.
She’s also overseeing the branching out of alumnae chapters in the southeast. “We’re looking beyond Alabama for new chapters. We have alumnae in neighboring states who will enjoy getting together and learning about what’s happening at their alma mater.”
Mitchell married in October 2003. Her husband Danny owns Woodland Hills Auto Sales in Tuscaloosa and does commercial sales for Advance Auto Parts. They’re expecting a daughter on Sept. 30.
“This will be the first girl in my family in 12 years,” Mitchell said. “We’re pretty excited!”
Mitchell is the daughter of Edd and Kathi Davis of Athens.
