Miss Softball, Mr. Baseball Are Named

Anna Thompson of Grissom High School has been named Miss Softball and Patrick White of Daphne High School has been tabbed Mr. Baseball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
Thompson, known for her long, flowing pitching motion, set an AHSAA record 613 strikeouts in 282.1 innings en route to a 44-8 record her senior season. She hurled 25 shutouts, 11 no-hitters and four perfect games, allowing 18 earned runs and walking only 21. She posted an earned run average of 0.45.
Also named the Class 6A Player of the Year, she posted a 19-strikeout game during her sophomore season and later added a 24-strikeout performance in an eight-inning, regional tournament game where she faced one batter over the minimum.
White, an outstanding quarterback, also made his mark on the diamond as an outfielder and pitcher. He hit .487 with 12 home runs ad 48 runs-batted-in and posted a 6-3 record as a pitcher with a 1.58 earned run average. Also named the Class 6A Player of the Year, he is expected to be an early selection in the upcoming Major League baseball draft.
White, who was third in the voting for the state’s Mr. Football honor last fall, ran for 1,905 yards and passed for 1,488 more his senior season. He earned a scholarship to West Virginia.
