A small crowd turned out for the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce’s first Saturday Walking Tour in the city.
Co-hosted by the Chamber and the Alabama Bureau of Tourism and Travel, the tour was the first in a series of downtown walking tours that will be conducted every Saturday through July 3.
Each tour, led by a different community leader each weekend, lasts about one hour and begin at 10 a.m. at the Demopolis City Hall. There is no admission charge for the tour.
Kelley Smith, who is coordinating the tours for the Chamber, said having a variety of tour leaders rather than just one is beneficial.
“It provides variety among the weekends and allows each of them to interject their own memories and anecdotes,” she said.
Mike Grayson led the first weekend tour. The tour leader for June 5 is Kirk Brooker.
Smith said that several groups had already booked some tours through the summer, and space was available for more.
