UNION-The string of violence that continues to occur in Greene County’s nightclubs’ parking lots reared its ugly head again Saturday, May 29 in the community of Union. A shootout in the parking lot of a local club landed one man in the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Greene County Sheriff Johnny L. Isaac said the shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Saturday at the Zodiac Club. He also said the shooting started, while the deputies were doing their regular checks of the individuals at the club.

“The officers were just making their regular checks, when all of a sudden, shots started ringing out and that sent people racing for their cars,” Isaac said.

He said after all the scene calmed down there was only one individual that was left injured from this mess. He also said Will Bonner Jr. of Boligee was rushed to Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa by some of his friends.

“Bonner was treated for a gunshot wound to his thigh and later released,” Isaac said.

He said after questioning Bonner about the incident, that he didn’t know who shot him and that he also didn’t want to file a police report on the shooting. He also said they’ve started investigating this case and have already the possible suspect who shot Bonner.

“If we can get concrete information on this suspect, then we are going to arrest him in the next couple of days,” Isaac said.

He said they will continue to question witnesses about the shooting and hope they can gather more information about what really started this shootout.
