Demopolis players show talents in Montgomery

Along with their clean sweep of awards Thursday night at the Demopolis High School Baseball Banquet, DHS juniors Devin Goodwin, Bart Pettus and G. W. Washington were also among 25 players picked this week to represent South-Central Alabama at the Fifth Annual Alabama Baseball Coaches Association “Underclassman Showcase.”

The AlaBCA Showcase gives 100 underclassmen baseball players a chance to showcase their baseball talents in front of over 50 college and professional scouts. College coaches from throughout the state of Alabama handpicked as many 100 players (25 per team) from various regions to play on one of four showcase teams this week.

AlaBCA executive director, Barry Dean and scouts were in Bay Minette on Monday, Montgomery on Tuesday and Birmingham on Wednesday selecting players for four underclassman showcase teams that will play amongst each other Thursday, June 24 at Birmingham Southern College in the Final Showcase Weekend.

Pettus, Goodwin and Washington were among 140 players in Montgomery Tuesday for the regional showcase workout. Those that participated Tuesday included rising juniors and seniors from AHSAA schools in regions 3 and 4 and AISA players in District I, IV, V, and VI.

Dean, along with more than 17 college baseball coaches from throughout the state of Alabama, hand picked 25 of the 140 players to represent the South-Central Team at the AlaBCA Showcase. All players were evaluated in every aspect of the game, form throwing and catching to hitting and running.

Dean and his staff will be in Huntsville Monday for the final regional workout, which will make up the North Team.
