DEMOPOLIS &045;&045; Coach Doug Goodwin of the Demopolis Tigers announced Monday during the Demopolis Tigers’ first fall practice that they have added a tenth team to the schedule. Monday was the first official day for the Demopolis High School Tigers fall practice and Thursday will be the first day in full pads.
There has been months of searching for an opponent, but the Tigers couldn’t find anyone that had the same open date that wanted to play them. He spoke to many different teams about playing on the 29, but no one would take the bait.
He was thinking about keeping the date open and giving the players an extra week to prepare for their first play-off opponent, but he ultimately decided that would do more harm than good.
They went 6-5 during last year’s campaign in Region 3 of Class 5A high school football and are located in Butler. There will be a total of four new teams that DHS will have to face this season including Greenville, Southside-Selma, Jemison, and North Ridge.
