GREENSBORO– Claude Hamilton, Jr., 23, son of Greensboro Police Chief Claude Hamilton, was found guilty on the charges of hit and run and DUI in the Greensboro City Court Thursday.
Greensboro City Judge Woody Dinning Jr. heard both sides argue the case, but decided the evidence was in favor of Italie Harper’s son.
During the trial, Hamilton admitted to leaving the scene of the accident and going to an apartment and drinking three beers. Officer Ed Jones of the Greensboro Police Department took Hamilton to jail the night of the accident and issued a breathalyzer test on him, at which time he blew .12.
“There is no way you could have scored a .12 on the test and only had three beers from the time of the accident to the time the test was given – which was a span of about 45 minutes,” Dinning said.
After the judge’s decision, Hamilton was hit with fines totaling more than $1,300 and is required to submit to a substance abuse test. Hamilton said he was going to seek an appeal on the ruling.
