Cooley forces run-off with Mike Baker

DEMOPOLIS – The race for the council’s District 5 post will be settled Sept. 13 when Mike Baker (I) faces challenger Jack Cooley in a run-off election.
Baker garnered the lion’s share of the vote with 342, followed by Cooley’s 298. H.C. Sonny Weaver had an even 100 votes.
“I came within 42 votes with a man who’s been in office 12 years and that’s a good feeling,” Cooley said at city hall.
“I covered every street and knocked on every door and the folks in District 5 will now get another chance to see me – they won’t see a change in a thing during the run off.”
Baker was could not be reached for comment for this story.
